First, you'll want to make sure you have a template the pulls in the |ACTIVE MEDICATIONS|
and the |OUTPATIENT MEDS|
.
If you don't have a template for these, see this page to create one. The template I use is below:
============================= INPATIENT MEDS =============================
|ACTIVE MEDICATIONS|
============================= OUTPATIENT MEDS ============================
|OUTPATIENT MEDS|
Using the |ACTIVE MEDICATIONS|
portion of the template, copy all lines from the first
medication (including the number 1) until the last line of the last medication. It's important the the first line
starts with 1) and that you don't copy the long line of ==='s above the first medication.
Copy this text into the "Inpatient meds" box on the webpage
Note: If you use |ACTIVE MEDICATIONS|
while a patient is still
outpatient in CPRS, it will display their outpatient medications. So you can't use this to compare the admission med
rec for patients who are in the ED (because the ED is outpatient).
Use the |OUTPATIENT MEDS|
portion of the template to copy the meds populated from this template.
When you paste this one over to the "Outpatient meds" box on the webpage, be sure that you don't have any blank lines that got copied over.
Once you're done with the step above, the webpage should look like Figure 2. Click on the and buttons to build the respective lists. You'll see a popup that shows how the app parsed the input, so take a second to make sure everything looks right.
Once you close out of the popup, you'll see the medications populated in list format below the button you clicked.
Once the lists have been processed, you can sort the lists and toggle each individual medication. Someone who is smarter than me could add more features if this actually became a QI project.
Pressing will sort the list in alphabetical order (Figure 3), which can make it easier to compare what they are getting inpatient vs outpatient.
You can also click and drag medications (within the list) to reorder where you want them.
You can change the color of each medication by clicking the medication. You can use the mouse to single left or right click as well as double left click to toggle among the colors (Figure 4).
